# CSV or Excel

> Upload a CSV file or Excel workbook as a snapshot source.

CSV and Excel files are native Platinur v1 snapshot sources. The uploaded file is stored in the
account workspace and loaded into its own `raw_` ClickHouse database.

## Supported files

* `.csv` files encoded as UTF-8;
* `.xlsx` Excel workbooks; and
* files up to 25 MB.

A CSV becomes one table. Each worksheet in an Excel workbook becomes a separate table you can
select. The first row is treated as the column header. Use unique, non-empty column
names and keep one consistent data type per column where possible.

Legacy `.xls`, password-protected workbooks, macros, and external workbook connections are not
supported. Formula cells are read from the value cached in the workbook; recalculate and save the
file before uploading if those values changed.

## Upload in Platinur

1. Open **Integrations → New Source → CSV or Excel**.
2. Enter a source name and target schema suffix.
3. Choose the `.csv` or `.xlsx` file.
4. Test the file, then save the source.
5. Open **Schema** and choose the file tables or workbook sheets to load.
6. Sync the source.

The browser path is never stored. Platinur keeps an account-owned copy of the uploaded file.
**Validate file** checks that Platinur can read the selected file before source creation; it does
not upload a credential or contact another system.

## Refresh behavior

File sources are snapshots and use Override mode. They do not have a schedule. To refresh the
data, open the source configuration, upload the replacement file, test it, and sync again.

## Data preparation

For predictable results:

* keep the header in the first row;
* remove merged header cells and decorative rows;
* avoid duplicate or blank column names;
* export dates in one consistent format;
* do not mix free text and numbers in the same column; and
* split very large workbooks before uploading.

## Troubleshooting

* **File rejected:** confirm the extension and 25 MB limit.
* **No columns discovered:** add a header row and at least one data row.
* **Unexpected Excel values:** recalculate and save the workbook before uploading.
* **Missing worksheet:** confirm it is visible and contains a usable header row.
* **Column names changed:** rediscover the file schema before syncing the replacement.

## Replace or remove the file

To rotate sensitive source data, upload a replacement in the source **Config** tab, validate it,
then rediscover and sync. To revoke Platinur's access, delete the source; this removes the
account-owned upload used by that source. There is no external API key or provider permission to
revoke for a file upload.
